How do I return or mail items back to the Library?

Answer

NOTE: You have the option to renew the books up to 2 times if you need more time with them, and no other patrons have requested them. To do so, sign in to your Library account.

RETURNS

The library book drop is in the Main Lobby of Mission Campus for quick and easy drop-offs during building open hours.

On the day of your visit, please consider calling the first-floor lobby to verify building hours of operation! (415-575-6100)

Library Items can also be returned by mail.

You may send items to:

CIIS Library
ATTN Returns
1453 Mission St.
San Francisco, CA 94103

To avoid charges for damage to items while in transit, be sure that you pack items well in a box or padded envelope. Softcover items should be packed with some kind of cardboard reinforcement.

Be aware that if you mail an item on or just before your due date, you will continue to receive overdue notices via email until we have the items in hand. Rest assured that once we have the items, and confirm that they are in good condition, they will be checked in and you will be credited any fines that accrued while in transit.

We recommend sending materials as Media Mail, which is the cheapest US Postal Service option for sending books and A/V materials that weigh more than 8oz. Due to their very high value, we require patrons to purchase insurance when shipping audio-visual materials back to the Library or to ship via a method that includes indemnity to protect against loss or damage. Additionally, we highly recommend using Delivery Confirmation or another service to track and insure the books you send back.
