Does the Library provide any Instruction? How can Faculty request an Instruction Session?
Answer
At any time, students, faculty, and staff may use the online self-paced how-to guides and tutorials.
Classes, Intensives, and Workshops:
We are eager and excited to be welcomed into your classrooms. Librarians are available to provide library instruction for students in the form of a general orientation, a longer overview on how to use resources, and course-specific library instruction.
The feedback from students we work with in reference sessions frequently express that they wish that they had been connected to library resources sooner!
Some examples of past Library instruction sessions:
- Program orientations
- Getting started with research
- Resources for conducting a literature review
- Search tips and strategies
- Database specific instruction
- RefWorks citation manager
- and more!
Important Note for Faculty:
We do not recommend assigning all students in a class to book an appointment with a librarian due to staffing limitations and providing equitable access to these appointments to the entire CIIS community. Library instruction sessions are an equitable and effective mode for helping all your students develop and strengthen their information literacy skills. If considering such an assignment, please reach out to help@ciis.libanswers.com to discuss alternatives.
We are also available to create guides or tutorials for your class if you prefer asynchronous instruction.
