My Library item is damaged- what now?

Answer

Damages and Replacements - If you notice that library material is damaged or is missing parts, inform Library staff before you check it out to avoid being assessed repair or replacement charges.

Items returned damaged – including:

  • Marks or Underlining: Highlighter, Pen, Pencil
  • Extensive tabs or book-marking left in the book
  • Tears, Breaks, Bends: Corners, Covers, Pages, Spines
  • Exposure to: Animals, Food, Liquid, Stains, Water

are subject to repair or replacement fees (please see the circulation matrix). If the item is not repairable, the system defaults to an $85 replacement fee (or $150 for A/V material), but you are responsible for the actual replacement cost and processing fee.

Lost Items- Inform Library staff AS SOON AS you know an item is lost, this will allow us to assess replacement costs more quickly so you do not accrue late fines in addition to replacement fines. You will be charged for overdue materials until an item is returned or replaced.

Maximum Fees and Fines

  • When combined fees and fines (overdues, ILL charges, and/or lost materials) reach $10, the patron cannot check out physical materials
  • When combined fees and fines are $40 or more, students will not have remote access to online resources and will have an administrative hold placed on their University Account until all outstanding balances are settled
