I am not affiliated with CIIS, but would like to access CIIS Library resources. How?
Answer
Not a student/faculty/staff member of CIIS but interested in the CIIS Library resources?
In this case, we have a few options available to you:
1. Come to the Library to view (but not check out/take home) books:
You can visit the Library during our open hours (please see the website for hours) and view books in the Library. You will not be able to take books out of the Library.
IMPORTANT: All visitors to CIIS will need to:
- Make an appointment by emailing library@ciis.edu
- Show some form of identification upon entering the library
Need access as an unaffiliated scholar to items in our special collections? Please see here for more information.
2. Checking out books:
If it is important to check out books, and you think you will be needing access to more of the print books at CIIS, you can consider purchasing a "Friends of the Library" membership. Please see this page for more information on how to sign up.
You would still need to come to CIIS to retrieve books and follow the above-stated visitor policy.
3. Are you affiliated with an NCCPL school?
The NCCPL (Northern and Central California Psychology Libraries) Direct Borrowing Program enables current students and faculty of NCCPL affiliated libraries to have access to resources unavailable in their own institutions. Please see the NCCPL website for a list of participating schools and how to sign up for a card.
4. Consider using your local public library's interlibrary loan service
If your local public library does not have books you are looking for, you may be able to request them using their interlibrary loan service. The library will then request the print book be sent to the public library branch for you to pick up and return there. For example, please see information on the San Francisco Public Library's interlibrary loan service.
